Joseph and Kate Emma Biggs (formerly Thompson)

Researching great grandparents, all I can find is Kate's death record in 1927, and 1901 and 1911 censuses, in both of which Kate is already widowed. She and her children born in Portsmouth, husband Joseph was an engine room artificier in R.N. Youngest child Violet born February 1894, so presumably Joseph was still alive early 1893. Can you help please?

This looks like the marriage record (although Kate's husband's name seems to be missing) but you could still order the certificate and get his father's name if he knew it:-

Name: THOMPSON, Kate Emma
Registration district: Portsea Island
County: Hampshire
Year of registration: 1884
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's last name: Not available before 1912
Volume no: 2B
Page no: 722

MarriageFinder: Kate Emma Thompson married one of the following people:

BONE, Alfred
MILES, Eliza

I can't find them in earlier census though.

Thank you very much, that gives me more to go on. Know nothing about Joseph, but will order the marriage certificate and hope that gives me a little more info about him.

Well spotted Choccy.

I guess Joseph missed the census as he was at sea.

I think the maritime death that Chris posted is correct. Looking at the original image he was listed as a passenger, newspaper reports from the time have him listed as a naval passenger so it seems to tie in with the other info.
