Hi there Shirley and thanks for the suggestion - would you believe I have found an "old" tree on Ancestry that has Douglas Simmons - born in Toronto, Canada in 1920 and died same place in 1993.
Parents also noted on tree as is wife Margaret Wilson Hunter (but no date/place of marriage noted on this tree).

I have something to work on now.

Thanks again.

I've searched most of the known records to try and find their exit record from UK.

I have a funny feeling Douglas may have been born outside of Scotland/UK - given it as just at War end, he may have been a foreign soldier. This si what I'm hoping to find on their marriage record.

Thanks for checking.

Found a record of a Douglas Simmons going to Canada in 1959 but he was too young as born 1933 and seems to be from Birkenhead.

Unfortunately, outgoing records from UK stop at 1960 and Canada arrivals stop 1935.

Hello there.
I was wondering if anyone may be braving the elements to visit the GRO in Edinburgh. I live in Australia and won't be able to make it any time soon.

I have the following marriage entry which I trust will show the parents of the couple and hopefully a "usual residence".

1945 SIMMONS DOUGLAS & HUNTER MARGARET WILSON in SHETTLESTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/01 0718

This is a "last resort" request after searching a number of other ancestry sites, I've only come across one other tree with these same people (with no great detail) - and unfortunately I have not had a reply back to my message (they have not been on line for over a year, so I suspect their contact details are no longer valid).
I do believe, though, that this couple may have ended up in Canada at some point (and again I cannot find any travel records for them)

If someone is able to help, it would be much appreciated - I am more than happy to pass on my email address should anyone wish to PM me.

Many thanks for your help!
Regards
