I would suggest you get his marriage cert to your grandmother if possible, to hopefully establish his father's name.

Vera Report 27 Jan 2013 15:39

Do you know who he married?

Regards Vera

Maddie Report 27 Jan 2013 15:39

British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920 about Richard Jones
Name: Richard Jones
Regiment or Corps: Army Service Corps
Regimental Number: T/29199

tracey Report 27 Jan 2013 15:40

its looking very much like this is the one oh my god its took me forever to get this far is it possible to find out who is father was and maybe his grandparents

brummiejan Report 27 Jan 2013 15:45

Tracey, you need to be a bit careful as the name is so common. It would be really easy to follow the wrong path.
I really think you should get his marriage cert.

tracey Report 27 Jan 2013 15:45

is it possible to find out where he served in the army all i know is he was in france

tracey Report 27 Jan 2013 15:50

if its the same one he married my gran her name was anne ryan or ryanford she came from motherwell in scotland i think they were married in or around 1926 1st born child was named anne born in october 1927

Vera Report 27 Jan 2013 15:59

Do you know who your great grandad married please? As Jan says it would be best to get a marriage certificate.

tracey Report 27 Jan 2013 16:05

i cant get the marriage certificate but he married anne ryan or (ryanford) in or around 1926 she was from motherwell in scotland

brummiejan Report 27 Jan 2013 16:15

Why can't you get the cert? I can't see a marriage on the indexes.
Maybe you can tell us the name of the child born 1927 and where this was? That way we can hopefully check mother's maiden name.

George_of_Westbury Report 27 Jan 2013 16:15

This is a record of The Army Service Corp in WW1

Now ive looked to see if his Pension or Service records have survived which may have given more info where he served, alas it looks like his have not survived, but 70% of these records were destroyed in WW2, so not surprising.

Joseph Report 27 Jan 2013 16:20

Long Shot

Marriages Jun 1927
JONES Richard E Ford Manchester N. 8d 1254
FORD Annie Jones Manchester N 8d 1254

No Ryan

Could have married in Scotland.

You could spend a fortune on certificates and be no nearer than now!!!

tracey Report 27 Jan 2013 16:31

no this is looking good as my some of my grans family were called ryan some called for so we wasnt sure if it was ryan or not but now im thinking this could be right they didnt marry in scotland they married in england
