Did Christopher die 1731/2? Ancestry has an online copy of the administration of his will. Also Elizabeth, his wife ?? will 1760 where she mentions her children and grandchildren. Lovely to see old documents like this surviving. Didn't know if you were aware of any of this..

Hi Stephen,

have you sent messages to the other 4 people on this site who have some of your Davis/Davies on their trees??

Had a look again today, basically you will have to work through every parish on the OPC Dorset site, looking for Williams birth/marriage. Some of the records do not even start that early so you may not find his ancestors..

Some of the parishes I looked at had no Davis at all. Did find some in Bere Regis and Piddletrenthithe.. probably best to get a map, pinpoint Cheselbourne and start working outwards, noting which parishes do have Davis/Davies in them. I would guess William married circa 1680, had 2 or 3 children, including the 2 Davis girls( who later married in Cheselbourne) before arriving in Cheselbourne. Look for the girls births, unfortunately with n ames like Mary and Ann this may take a while..... I put in a general search but got too many hits...

You are very welcome. There were no Davis/Davies in Cheselbourne in 1641 as that name is not on the protestation returns of 1641.

You could try try to see if anyone else in the White or Lock families has the two Davis girls who married into them, specifically Ann Davis/Davies to Andrew Lock as she is stated to be dau of William Davis. Will carry on looking tomorrow.

thank you for that, might be worth checking other places they may have married in Dorset.
You have been a great help

Almost certainly, there are no other Davis/Davies families having children at that time.

Ancestry has one person with Henry and Margaret in their tree but no further details than you already have. Someone else had a tree but it isn;t available now so may have been pulled off..

Do not believe William married Mary in Chesilbourne as there are no marriages found for Davis before Mary in 1699. Williams wife Mary may have come from there or they may have moved there for work..

Both the Davis girls who married in 1699 and 1702 are likely to be sisters as well.

Hi Stephen,

some of my ancestors were from Cheselbourne. Try searching Dorset OPC, then scroll down to Cheselbourne. Found the following baptisms:

1688 Henry Davis son of William and Mary
1690 Margaret dau of William and Mary
1692/3 Christopher son of William and Mary

also the following marriages although not for William

1699 Mary Davis to Christopher White
1702 Andrew Lock to Ann Davies dau of William Davies
