I looking for any info on my G.Grandfather, born in Cork and died in Nottingham between 1900 and 1902.

Flip

Flip Report 3 Feb 2013 14:12

So he must have been married to have fathered your grandparent, so you must have more information on him - like his wife, child(ren) or even his approx age?

Added, forgot to say, welcome to the boards.

But unlike the search engines on some sites that say, "less is bettter" on here "more is better" - post up what you already know that way we can try to help.

Not seeing an obvious death ( not for Nottingham)

GlitterBaby Report 3 Feb 2013 14:14

Why do you think he died in Nottingham between 1900 and 1902 ?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 3 Feb 2013 14:14

Nor me

Rambling Report 3 Feb 2013 14:16

As per Rosalyn's tree date of birth 1870?

Is this who you are looking for Rosalyn?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 3 Feb 2013 14:24

There were quite a number of William Driscolls born around 1870 in Cork so we really need more info from Rosalyn.

So when and where was your grandparent (William's son/daughter) born? His/her name?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 3 Feb 2013 14:33

Wonder if that Janet married in 1923

Rosalyn

Rosalyn Report 5 Feb 2013 14:35

The only info I have is that William was born in Cork Ireland, he married Ada Perry from Aston Birmingham - no dates known.
My grandmother, Janet, was born on 15 June 1899 in Nottingham and was married on 7 August 1923 to Ernest Allen. She had a sister Dora, I have no dates for her. My late mother was told that William died in Nottingham 1901/02 by Janet (her mother). My g.grandmother remarried a gentleman called Currie, again no dates known.
William was a Music Hall singer as stated on my grandmother's birth certificate.

MargaretM Report 5 Feb 2013 15:08

Could this possibly be gt. grandmother's remarriage? But she's Ada Perry not Driscoll.

PM rec'd from Rosalyn, with a bit more background info.

Many, Many thanks - yes this has got to be Dora - the name Albert Edward Currie is on my grandmothers certificate. Janet (my grandmother) will not be on the same census as she was given to relatives in Pye Bridge, Notts to raise. Mr. Currie would only take 1 child. As last I know that Dora was older than my grandmother, she was born in 1899. Dora took the surname Currie as she also signed my grandmothers marriage certificate. Will keep looking for William, a promise I made to my mother before she died.

Rosalyn, it's better to post direct to your thread, that way others can see and may be able to help further.

I can't see a marriage for Thomas/Ada, nor a birth for Dora but maybe someone else will have more luck? Margee's marriage posted earlier could be right, if they were not free to marry (either Thomas of Ada were still married to someone else)

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 6 Feb 2013 08:21

No,not seeing a birth for Dora either as Driscoll or Perry.

The fact that Ada married as Perry suggests she was never legally married to Driscoll. Am also thinking that William Driscoll didn't die 1901/2 but was just no longer on the scene then.

Sorry for stereotyping but if he was a music hall singer he may have been a bit footloose and fancy free. (But I am a bit of a cynic!)

Have to go now but will do some digging later.

Can anyone see Ada or the girls in 1901?

Flip

Flip Report 8 Feb 2013 19:40

Been away, but I have looked for all of them under Perry and Driscoll in 1901 but no luck either - even tried Ireland census just in case they'd gone back to William's alleged birth place.

Can't find Dora's birth , but that could be a nick-name (my ancestor, born around the same time, was Dorothy Jane, but her marriage/death/census details were for Dora) and I agree with MC, they may never have married especially given his profession.
