Hi, can anyone help with my Irish question?.
My GG Grandfather James Foster born in Manchester Lancashire in 1815 and served with the 85th Regiment in Ireland in the 1840's.He married in Ireland to a lady named Ellen (maiden name not known ).A first Child was born in Ireland, I believe in Dublin in 1847.
I would like to trace any details of the marriage and also the maiden name of Ellen my GG Grandmother ( I think she was born in Limerick circa 1827).
James & family were posted back to England and lived in Fulwood Lancashire in 1851 where he remained a soldier in the 85th Regiment.
Any help would be appreciated.
John/Canada.

John,
Had a quick look on Census for 1851 which shows
James Foster (age 36) Married to Ellen (no maiden name - age 24) so that fits with your dob's of 1815 and 1827.
She was born in Limerick.
James Foster (age 3) born in Limerick in c.1848
John Foster (age 9 months) born in Preston, Lancashire, England in 1850.
James was still serving as a Private in the 85th Regiment in 1851. He poss died in in 1867 Q1 (registered in Manchester vol. 8d page 293).

You might want to try and register with www.rootsireland.ie to see if you can get more on Ellen's side ?

Good hunting!

There are 4 different couples to be matched on this film, so it could be coincidence.
EDIT:
I checked on Rootsireland and can confirm that ...
James Foster married Ellen Hays in Limerick in 1846

Does this say Limerick? ( Edit: yes I see it does)
