I've looked for him on the US census records Paul but have been unable to find any trace of him unfortunately. There is no trace of a marriage or a death either. He may, of course have moved on to another Country.

Although I have just found this

So it appears he was in the Merchant Navy. This is the same record from FMP which confirms it is the right man.

thanks astra all looking good his brother nicholas was a stoker in the merchant navy and was killed of the west coast of ireland 1943 thanks paul a photo would be great
