Richard Report 30 Jun 2014 20:06

they moved to Canada around 1904 to see their fortune, they returned a few years later only to take more of their family with them.

It was only only because (a bit of a family myth (that my grandad shot someone) )
that they return to England.

they were back in england for the 1911 census and my grandad moved back and got married in Canada ( i have his marriage cert.) and had a child who stayed in canada.
whilst Albert (my grandad) return.
This is also in his war records which i have a copy of.

Right now, 1921 is free via:
http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=8991
The most likely hit is:
Fred Yates St Andrew Ward, Montreal (St Antoine), Quebec abt 1882 England Head
He's an engineer, widower, immig 1907 (on image).
[addy=322 Mackay - it's a block NE and parallel to Guy, 322 is just SE of Ste Catherine]

Berkshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1907
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
YATES Frederick C MORGAN Margaret Reading Register Office Reading RG/42/18
[Since 1898, most non-conformist churches were allowed to become authorized keepers of official marr registers. So this marr is most likely a rego office marr, or an RC marr - RCs weren't trusted to keep official regos until (I think) the 1980s, so the registrar was obliged to go along to an RC marr with his rego hich the couple would sign, mixed in with all the rego office marrs]

OOppps - I didn't realise you had this thread and have posted on one of the others - I will transfer this over to here in case the links are of any use and delete from the other thread:

Search the Canada 1911 census here:

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1911/Pages/1911.aspx

I did find a Frederick Charles aged 25 in Manitoba and a William ? aged 28 in Ontario.

Do you know what their occupations would be?

You can also search here to see if they joined the expeditionary forces in the first world war (though I can't see anything for them at first glance) :

On page 1 Glitterbaby posted a possible 1907 marriage for Frederick Charles Yates. I'd suggest ordering that marriage certificate to check if it's him, and if it is then we'll also have the bride's age etc so we can do a two pronged approach to trying to find them in Canada.

So what's that I've just posted above Richard!! :-)

You may have all the info pre 1901 but we don't so we have to build up a picture of who we're looking for if that info isn't provided at the outset, that's why we delve into the history.

Richard

Richard Report 28 Jun 2014 09:09

Richard when you asked for help you should have put all that info in the first post to give searchers more idea of the whole family.

Always stay with a question you put up and keep going back to your thread to read the replies.

You will get answers with a few minuets as there are plenty of people willing to help.

I also cannot find them to see if they fought during the war as well.

My guess is that they stayed in Canada

Other children belonging to Arthur Yates & Sarah Yates (nee Hodges)

Albert - (my grandad)
Ernest (both in 1901 census)

William did indeed live with his uncles in Kings Langley,

He may of been in Canada from 1911 onward along with Fred.

Arthur, Sarah, young Albert & Edward came back to be on the 1911 census...
Albert then went back out to Canada again, married and had a child (Albert Yates b 1912) Albert Jnr. Stayed with Albert Snr's Wife.
Albert Snr. (my grandad) came back to fight in WW1 ( he then divorced his first wife)

Thanks for all your info... you can both look at my tree if that helps..

i want to post back to some of the messages you put on here but i don't know how to.

Arthur is indeed his father,

i am sorry if i haven't got back to you.
if you look at the 1911 census it staes that 2 children have died, these would be his sisters.
