Find Ancestors

Need help with a Mary Dukes born 1836 in Lambeth to parents John and Mary Dukes.

Mary married Thomas Mason (c1835 Southwark Surrey) on the 17th October 1858 in Lambeth i can find them on the 1861 census with her parents and two of her siblings Matilda and George but after that no luck.


Any help :)

have you looked for deaths for them .

From 1861 there are a number of Mary and Thomas Mason deaths on BMD and that is just looking in the London area im not 100% that they stayed in the area i know the rest of the family did :(

Where did you find Mary Mason with them ??

I think the above marriage might be right as Thomas was a widower?

No i haven't been able to find her on the 1841 census i know she would have been 5 at the time but no idea where she is living. from her marriage certificate i know that she is John Dukes daughter and she is stated as living at their family address.

Maybe they emigrated?

On the 1851 census she is living with her eldest sister Hannah (Anna) who is married and now named Salter and her son.

I take it you have discounted the possible 2nd marriage for Thomas?

On the marriage certificate his father is listed as Charles Henry Mason so that second marriage does seem a possible outcome

the Thomas mason who married Sarah Harrison is a Bus conductor not a solicitors clerk

Thats what i just saw on the 1871 census :-

You are right Shirley, but just thought it such a co-incidence - born same time, Surrey, father right name and a widower! I am trying to locate the Thomas who married Sarah in 1861.
