Yes Marie, I agree with you, so when I seen them all I thought I would try and find evidence myself, without much luck, but certainly keeping me busy xx

Where were hannah, Sarah and John Bell born?
Hexham or elsewhere?

Gillian - for a start, I would take any info on other trees (on any site) with a pinch of salt - unless the tree owner can prove their research and back it up with certificates, etc. So many people copy info willy nilly without verifying.

There are so many Robsons around people may have just added them all together. I'm very suspicious of "James and Mary have listed 33 children as their's"

To be brutally honest, I would completely ignore any of the info you have seen on other trees and just do my own research on the people I KNOW to be related.

Could you say which one is definitely an ancestor of yours who is alive in 1911?

Gillian Jennifer

Gillian Jennifer Report 14 Feb 2013 23:11

No, her original surname is ROBSON, I cannot access the other census's. They are on the family tree as all being the children of James and Mary's but we know that cannot be so, I mean 33 children and the last being born 1920, a miricle could not make that true.

Gillian Jennifer

Gillian Jennifer Report 14 Feb 2013 23:09

James Robsons parents are James MacKenzie Robson and Margaret BELL, so maybe those Bell children are from a relative of hers but living with James and Mary. No name for other parents.

patchem Report 14 Feb 2013 23:08

Is Mary Jane's surname originally Bell?
If you cannot find them on the censuses, how do you know they are in the same family?
Have you got them in 1891 or 1901?
Thank-you

Added:
33 children?
Could you post them?
Thanks

Gillian Jennifer

Gillian Jennifer Report 14 Feb 2013 23:06

Cannot find them on any census - all the info was found on a family tree and the names connect me to them. But Mary Jane Robson is listed as married twice once to James Robson born Northumberland 1859 and the other husband named as William Robson. James and Mary have listed 33 children as their's, obviously three of them are Bell, names and dates on already. There are three listed as unknown father Elizabeth Nevison Charles Nevison and George Nevison 1901-1909-1920 all the rest are Robson except there is a Joseph Bell 1883 also. As I said very complicated.

Gillian, for us to make sense of this can you give more details, e.g. the Nevison children. Are you saying that a woman born Mary Jane Robson went on to marry two different men also called Robson? When/where was Mary Jane born.

Can you give details of a census that you do have any of them on?

Robson is such a common name here in the North East that we need to check the families aren't mixed up.

Gillian Jennifer

Gillian Jennifer Report 14 Feb 2013 22:56

I cannot even find these on the 1881 census. Complicated family.
James Robson 1859 Hexham, Northumberland
wife Mary Jane plus three children Hannah Bell 1872, Sarah Bell 1876 and John Bell 1880, there are a lot more children after this date with mainly ROBSON as their surname, as I said very complicate.

What are the chances that Mary Jane Robson would marry two men both using the surname Robson but have children between 1872 - 1900 with the names Bell, Nevison and Robson.
