I am looking for the parents of Joseph Priest born 1811 in Charlesworth, Glossop,Derbyshire. I have found a birth record on 'family search.org' which said they were John & Mary(The surname was spellt Preist) . I believe they came from Yorkshire but there are many John Priest's marrying Mary's that I'm stuck. |

In all of the census Joseph Priest said he was born in Derbyshire around 1811. He lived in yorkshire in 1841,then Hyde, cheshire 1851, I think Derbyshire in 1861 and then settled in Marple Cheshire. |

I see the last two children were names John and Mary so that could be a clue. It is usually the first born son named after the fathers father. But not is this case?? |

I see from the 1851 census that Joseph was a Master Nailmaker employing 2 men so it was his own business. |

I found birth records for all the children except the oldest son Joseph Priest having seached other census' I now beleive he was registered as Joseph Henry Evans as his parents were not married. |

I have found death records for Joseph Priest in 1887 age 77 and Emma Priest 1884 age 51 He was burried in Marple after dying in the workhouse. They lived in Marple Cheshire so I think this is correct. |
