It looks like he was listed as a missing person rather than"wanted for a crime"

I wonder if NSW Police archives would have the original missing person report that may give some clues as to whether where he had been lving or if he had any relatives?

records maybe at NSW state archives?

so they were looking for him even then!

"DONISTHORPE and OAKTHORPE, are two hamlets adjacent to each other, about four miles from Ashby-de-la-Zouch"

Hope you dont mind me asking for some more help, your previous assistance has been wonderful but I have hit a brickwall........

I have been trying to find the death of a John Cashmore born about 1796 in Ashby, England and died in Australia. (he was transported as a convict but this has all been confirmed) I ordered a transcription of the death cert mentioned above but unfortunately it is not the right one and I just cant let it go !!!!

I have found the following Australian deaths on ancestry but do not have a worldwide subscription........would some kind person look them up for me.....before I go completely crazy !!!

I really need the state / place of death and an age if possible

John Cashmore died 1857

John H Cashmore died 1884

John Herbert Cashmore died 1888

John R L Cashmore died 1894

Hi Susan ..the TAS library has no record of that (or any other) marriage .... but have found a 'few possible departures for him' ...and so to check arrivals in other colonies.

Sorry for confusion with my general posting about Australian records.

Have hit a brickwall with my John Cashmore and could really do with some help if possible.

Was aware of John Cashmore ISRAEL, (believe he was also transported from England) but mine is just plain old John Cashmore........He was born c1796 in Ashby, England and transported to VDL in 1936.

I know he was granted a ticket of leave and then a pardon in 1846...........

He may have left VDL for Portland in April 1846 and settled in NSW.

I have a possible death for him in 1867 at Tamworth, NSW ............
am trying to find out where he was between 1846 and 1867.............and if he had a new family (his original wife remained in England).

Any help you could offer would be wonderful.

EDIT - What do I need to do to use a transcription agent........never ordered/needed to get Australian documents before !

Interestingly there is a John Cashmore ISRAEL In Launceston, Tasmania b. c1797 but he married c1844 and had several children with an Adelaide COOK up to 1864; he died in 1872. An article states JCI arrived in Launceston in 1819 so not your man but an interesting coincidence!

John received his ticket of leave in 1842. He applied to marry a fellow convict in 1852 but no idea if marriage took place:

I don't have Tassie records but there is a John CASHMORE who married in 1855 in Victoria to Mary Anne DESMOND (reg 1333). They had 8 children 1856-79 in Woodford/Moyston. She died in 1887 aged 47. [EDIT: not the right family as this John CASHMORE died in Moyston in 1895 aged 69.]

The death for John CASHMORE in Tamworth NSW in 1867 that Catherine & Gins a found is a good match agewise...might be worth a look. Use a transcription agent (cheaper).

Sorry to bother you all again......

now we have determined that John most probably remained in Australia after his pardon. Are there any census records available that somebody could check for me that might give a clue to his whereabouts, family and occupation before he died

Someone on ancestry has this person in his tree. Unfortunately it is not open to the public but it has a photo with the following title:-

Rosedale, Campbell Town Tasmania c1860 - Home of John Leake - Convict John Cashmore Employer

.......so looks as though he was still in Tasmania c1860.
