Hi, could someone look up James McDermid in the 1901 and the 1911 census please. He was born in 1890 in Scotland but not sure what area. He was in the 1st world war as a private in the Royal Army but not sure when he joined. Thanks Debbie |

Debbie, it would be better to add this to your other thread and delete this one. Is the James from your other thread and is he the one in the RAMC? |

Debbie, if they never married, the child would most likely be registered as Cunningham, not McDermid. If you think he was in Ireland in 1911, the Irish census is online, free. Will put up the address. |

Do you know for sure that he was Scottish? McDermid can be an Irish name. If you haven't found a birth for Martha, how do you James was her father? |

Martha used the name McDermid as when she married my mother in law's dad that is what she used on the marriage cert. Her mum was always down as Margaret Cunningham. Martha had children in the early 1930's which she gave up and when i was looking up for the children with social sevices they gave me the information of Martha's mum and dad with the Margaret Cunningham and James McDermid. She gave up a child called Arthur Cunningham in 1930 and was down as Martha Cunningham then she had a son called David McDermid and she was then down as Martha McDermid, then she had twins called Eric and William McDermid and was down as Martha McDermid again. So she may have been a Cunningham then decided to take the name McDermid on, i do not know. She was one hell of a women |

I was not sure if he was irish or scottish but when i looked up deaths for 1918 the one that came up was a scottish one and that might explain why they moved to Scotland in the 1st place. I know it's all very confusing, thats why its such a hard one to follow |
