Trailertrash,
Thank you for looking..
Chris
It is looking very likely that this is the right person. Perhaps just known as Queenie
Thank you.
MarieCeleste
Thanks for the correction from Ancestry.

Thanks Marie Celeste - I thought it was rather strange.

That 1872 marriage record on Ancestry is a mis-transcription of the correct 1912 marriage. The quarter is June and the GRO ref is 5b 650

That baptism is looking strong ....

Strangely enough, this appears on Ancestry, com

Queenie E Shaddick married April 1872 - Plymouth to a 'Down' - image not available. Is this a mistake or co incidence?

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:58

Reggie
That Elizabeth may be worth chasing up.. both Queenie and Shaddick are such unusual names I thought she'd be easy enough to find.
.The DOB on the death record says Aug 1890, so sept 1/4 would be right.
Thank you

MarieCeleste
It is a huge gap.Barbara is the only one my mother in law actually knew.
I know the middle one Cecilia married a man named Archie Andrews!!!!!!!n not the dummy I hope.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Feb 2013 16:51

Beatrice's birth record does give maiden name as Shaddick:

Births Dec 1912
Down Beatrice E A Shaddick Plymouth 5b 368

I've wondered about this one........

Births Sep 1890 (>99%)
Shaddick Elizabeth Plymouth 5b 257

Father's name on censuses is JOHN

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:49

Just to confuse us,many years later......
I think maybe I will get the marriage cert, it will hopefully give her father's name.
Thank you all so much for looking

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 17 Feb 2013 16:47

Jany, people could and did marry by the names they were commonly known as, it wasn't illegal.

There was no formal adoption before 1927 but she could have been taken in by a family and known by their name.

You say she had 3 daughters,Beatrice 1912,Cecilia 1914 and Barbara 1932. That's quite a gap.

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:47

That's true,perhaps 'adopted'

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 17 Feb 2013 16:45

She may not have been Shaddick at birth...........illegitimate, possibly, with mother marrying Shaddick later

No previous marriage........the children's birth registrations confirm that......first thing I checked

She could call herself whatever she liked when she married, as long as she had no intention to deceive or defraud.

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:45

Reggie. I couldn't see her on any census either, thought it was just me!

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:44

Reggie and MarieCeleste
Thank you for the death record. So she was born in 1890 then.
I did wonder if she had been married before,so born with a different surname but can't find a previous marriage,
Or,could she have married using a nickname, not sure if that is legal

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 17 Feb 2013 16:43

I can't see her on any of the censuses on which she would be expected to appear.

Jany

Jany Report 17 Feb 2013 16:41

Dea, Thank you but I don't think these are members of the same family.

Reggie,
I don't know her father, she is the wife of John Down who was my husband's great uncle, and I haven't got the marriage cert..was hoping to avoid buying it, but may have to if I can't find more about her.
