I've found a possible marriage for 'our' Mary Josephine Quinlan in the 1st quarter of 1924, spouse Francis A Vernon. Does anyone have any other access to information which may give an address for her at the time.

Cheers

Tenerife Sun - yes Jane and Mary Josephine were sisters (a 15 year gap between them)

Flip - I've only seen Jane on the 1901 Census. Perhaps on the 1891 when she wasnt shown - she would have been about 11 - then I don't know where she may have been. Her mother in 1901 put one of her other children, Ellen Francis, in the Workhouse, so who knows what may have become of Jane?

Pam - thanks for all the military info - very useful to know all that, thanks.

Ergingobragh - also thanks for the background info. We knew nothing about that history.

So....we still have the mystery of Jane. Maybe she returned to Ireland

So where was Jane in 1891 - she wasn't with Sarah Agnes - or have you found a birth for her? It states she was born Ireland, so I wonder which name she would have been registered under.

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 18 Feb 2013 14:37

Were Jane and Mary sisters? Mothers maiden name was Bovenizer which is unusual.

Morning rootgatherer - no, I don't have his birth cert, just going on what we've been told by a living relative. Martin apparently died in 1901 and one of Sarah's children spent some time in the Salford Workhouse whilst Sarah was 'sorting herself out' with George laverack.

It's the Jane Quinlan that's causing the mystery - perhaps Jane wasn't her 'given' name?

You say Martin died in 1901. Do you have his death certificate please? Where did he die?

HLH

HLH Report 17 Feb 2013 22:44

Ah, Mary Josephine - that makes sense. we were told of a Josephine, so that must be her. she went on to marry a French-Canadian - apparently.

re the Jane Quinlan. No other record of her. Her father died in 1901 and her mother, Sarah Agnes, remarried George Laverick I believe in 1906.

What became of the Jane Quinlan I wonder?

HLH Report 17 Feb 2013 20:10

On the 1901 Census I have a Mary J Quinlan (b c1895) and a Jane quinlan (b c1880) living at Regent Road, Salford. I can find no trace of these two anywhere, ever since that time. there's nothing on the 1911 Census and I can't find any death record of them.

They were the daughters of a Martin & Sarah Agnes Quinlan. Martin died in 1901 and Sarah remarried afterwards - then moving to Goole.

can anyone help, please?
