Why cant I find Johanna Hall in the 1891 census? Is it possibel (as Henry senior , her husband ,dies in 1884) after the 1881 census and the children are fostered out? I'm wondering where their youngest children Alice b 1875 and George b 1877( both born in st Pancras) also their elder brother, Thomas Henry b 1872
Ps I am aware an even younger child Louisa, died shortly after the 1881 census... I'm curious as to where George and Alice are. - for quick look-up 1891 census reference;-
Alice would be 16yrs b st pancras 1875
George 14yrs b st pancras 1877
Thomas Henry -19yr b st pancras 1872
Ps.. I've just noticed that in 1899, George's marriage certificate, his adress was given as living in SOUTH Tottenham if thats any help.

UPDATE and UNSURE:
On George Hall and Catherine Yeo's 1899 marriage certificate, it states his Father as THOMAS HENRY HALL. occupation a (meat carrier)
On the 1877 birth certificate of George in which I purchased last week, the father is HENRY HALL ...occupation a (meat carrier). I was happy as the occupation matched up and didnt think too much about the name "THOMAS" being left out...
..But on the 1865 marriage certificate it also says HENRY HALL (a Butcher) v Johanna Litton.
What I am wondering about is - why doesnt George's birth cert say his Father's name THOMAS HENRY
no mention of THOMAS on the..Henry and Johanna's marriage either,
Have I gone wrong from purchasing George's birth cert and simply got the wrong George?

I am getting confused, but I do know Catherine Yeo and George Hall are definately the right family...

Reggie,, There was just too many Henry Halls to know which one to get, but now I have recieved George's birth cert this morning...which confirmed his father and, mother's maiden name was Litton, so I have sent off for the marriage certificate.....another long week to wait .

You don't need to know Johanna's maiden name to search for her marriage

No, please don't start a new thread.......stick to one per topic, as per guidelines

Is there anyone who has ancestry, possibly be able to look up on the 1871 and 1891 and 1901 for the Family of Henry Hall, his wife Johanna, there first child was Thomas H hall, born 1872
Alice Hall born1874
George Hall 1877
Louisa Hall 1879
They married in 1865, so I would like to know where they both lived before they had children. and after the 1881 census...
I know they were living at 2 ALBERT YARD, ST PANCRAS, MIDDLESEX, LONDON in the 1881 census...(thanks to Reggie for that info if your reading this)...and were also living there in 1877 by their son George's birth certificate, I've just recieved).... By the way. should I be putting up a new thread for this search, or remain with this one?

Linda Report 14 Mar 2013 13:23

Thank you Reggie, I couldn't look for the marriage cert as I don't know what Joanna's maiden name is, but I sent off for the George Hall 1877 birth certificate last Tuesday, hopefully I should get it by next Wednesday ( i didn't know there was another George Hall 1876).. fingers crossed I've got the right one! :-S

As there were no penalties for not registering births until 1875, you must consider that the father's birth simply wasn't registered

Have you looked for the marriage of the couple shown as parents in 1881?

And Linda.........please don't 'guess'. For your own sake.

Thanks Reggie..I'm not entirely sure if thats the same family,- I'm kind of guessing from George's birth in (1877) that his father 'Thomas Henry' was born around 1850 in Hackney (There is a ref for him that matches) so that would make his age in the 1881 census 31...not 40...wouldnt that be too far an age gap?

ErikaH Report 9 Mar 2013 12:55

George's birthplace was recorded as St Pancras in 1911.........

Suggestion only

1881 census

Person: HALL, George Address: 2, Albert Yard, St Pancras

HALL, Henry Head Married M 40 1841 Carman
St James, Middlesex VIEW
HALL, Johanna Wife Married F 37 1844
Marylebone, Middlesex VIEW
HALL, Thomas H Son Single M 9 1872 Scholar
St Pancras, Middlesex VIEW
HALL, Alice Daughter Single F 6 1875 Scholar
St Pancras, Middlesex VIEW
HALL, George Son Single M 4 1877
St Pancras, Middlesex VIEW
HALL, Louisa Daughter Single F 2 1879

Perhaps someone with an Ancestry sub would be kind enough to look for a possible baptism for George..............

Linda

Linda Report 9 Mar 2013 11:32

UPDATE;
I Have purchased Cecil George Hall's birth cert; which states his parents are indeed George HALL and Catherine YEO - So now I know I have the right family as it all ties in with the information you have all kindly given me - I have now just recieved GEORGE and CATHERINE'S marriage cert IN 1899 which names GEORGE'S father as THOMAS HENRY HALL (a meat carrier) and residence looks like 6 KEMBLE ROAD,SOUTH TOTTENHAM in LONDON.
I would now very much like to find out more down the line of THOMAS HENRY HALL now...can anyone help me find out more about him please .

:-D

@Andrew the address for Cecil George Hall in 1922 was 23 Wellesley Rd Walthamstow London, E17

Sorry everyone if I'm a bit slow in answering your questions (puppy tugging on one leg and grandson on the other!!)

@Reggie @Kath this is all looking very very promising inddeed...I've got a headrush :-D

Lol, I'm getting a bit confused now...Cecil George does indeed marry again in 1931to Stella Yeo in Bournemouth....But I think I best stick to the Hall side for now or I will get ahead of myself...his first wife died sometime between 1926-1929, but because she has been listed down on some forms as Ethel/Edith and Maud, she died in childbirth, but I cant find her death reference yet. (thats another on my look for list). :-|

I would imagine that a Drill Instructer with the army could easily be described as a "Timekeeper" as that's basically what he would teach soldiers to do - keep time.
