I have now solved the mystery thank you to my Grandad' Cousin who i found on here, he sent me a photo of a Mary Sykes who he knew had children Edward (my Grandad) and Kenneth. As soon as I showed my Mum the photo she said said yes that is definitely Grandma Sykes. So she was Mary not Annie.

I have deleted the other thread as I was 'duplicating' information.

I hope the poster copied all the information that was given on a duplicate thread that was on Genealogy Chat Board

I have ordered my Grandad's birth certificate so hopefully should have an answer on this.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Feb 2013 20:56

Wendy, it's not impossible that two sisters married Sykes but without that certificate (order it from GRO) you'll probably never get to the bottom of it.

Wendy

Wendy Report 18 Feb 2013 20:15

Will do as I'm at a loss now as she has always been known as Annie in the family.

Get you grandfather's birth certificate to see if his mother was Annie or Mary

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Feb 2013 19:33

.. so she could have been Mary?

Wendy

Wendy Report 18 Feb 2013 19:32

As Annie is my Grandad's (Edward) Mother, I've asked my Mum what she called her and it was always Grandma Sykes.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Feb 2013 19:30

So it was the older sister Mary who married the Sykes, not Annie?

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 18 Feb 2013 19:29

Why do you think it was Annie that married a Sykes ?

It is all based Leeds, possibly the area of Hunslet.

Wendy

Wendy Report 18 Feb 2013 19:15

Kenneth was born in 1921, Edward May 1918, Frances 1915 and Elsie 1913.
Annie has brothers Thomas, Edward and James and 1 Sister Mary. Their parents were Ann and Thomas Dockerty.

I hope this helps.
