Find Ancestors

Am trying to locate birth & marriage details of my 4 x great grandfather Alexander White, c1800 - 1882 (Wife is Margaret Hunter c1806 - 1870).

He was either born in Norham, (or elsewhere in..) Northumberland, or Scotland? On 1 or 2 Census' he states Norham.

His eldest son, Alexander, was born in Swinton & Simprin parish, in Berwickshire, Scotland in 1831 - hence finding the mothers maiden name, the others (5 siblings - Margaret 1833, James 1836, Robert 1839, John 1841 & William 1845) all born in northern Northumberland.

I descend from Margaret.

Where can I find his birth/parents as well as his marriage to Margaret?

Any help most welcome.

That's them alright! (Already have this!)

I have looked in S/People, albeit a while ago, just couldn't see a marriage for them, hence me thinkng that it may be in England somewhere.

Am at a loss on this one.

At that time in Northumberland a lot of people were non-conformist and these records are kept separately from the parish records.

Northumberland County Record offices at Woodhorn, near Ashington have quite a lot of non-conformist records transcribed so they might be able to help you.

We only found out about the non-conformist records after my husband and I spent a whole afternoon looking through parish records for my husband's great grandfather's baptism only to be told 2 minutes before the office closed that it may be in the non-conformist records. A member of staff found the record for us in about 30 seconds!!
