Yes, Australian death certs are generally very detailed (esp later ones)

The link for ordering is here
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage

You need to pay online and then you get a link to a pdf of the certificate :-)

Hope is is him!

Trudy Report 22 Feb 2013 07:52

Thanks for that information Cherilyn, is it the practise for Australian death certificates to list marriages and children? Also can you tell me where I would be able to obtain an uncertified image ? Thanks again :-)

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 22 Feb 2013 01:46

PS Ishmael's marriage to Margaret was as DICKIE in the index not McFARLANE.

I think perhaps you need to get his death certificate, wchih should list any and all marriages and children. You can get an uncertified image of the certificate relatively cheaply :-)

Cherilyn Report 22 Feb 2013 01:39

Death for Margaret DUKIE in 1888, daughter of John & Anne McFARLANE in Dunkeld (reg 13194).

???

The Peter DICKIE that MC found died in 1862 aged 43, b. Ayrshire. I think the Margaret above is 'DUKIE' as mispelling/mistranscription of 'DICKIE, not 'DOUGHTY'...confusing...

No death for Adam DICKIE or variant in Vic in 1855. No marriage in SA or Vic to Jane.

Well yes there is a tree on Ancestry which has Margaret dying in 1888 at Dunkeld, Victoria, and Ishmael remarrying a Jane (surname and date not known).

The same tree shows Margaret McFarlane born in Perthshire in 1818 :-S and marring an Adam Dickie in Perthshire with whom she emigrated and had 5 children before he died in Victoria in 1855.

BeverleyW

BeverleyW Report 20 Feb 2013 22:10

A guess, that Margaret died and Ishmael remarried to Jane.

Trudy, this is the death of that Jane Doughty:

Australia Death Index, 1787-1985
Name: Jane Doughty
Death Place: Stawell, Victoria
Age: 80
Father's Name: Cave Jno
Mother's Name: Maria Keet
Registration Year: 1908
Registration Place: Victoria

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1828

No Dickies or MacFarlanes :-(

Might just be a coincidence but it is quite an unusual name.

Trudy Report 20 Feb 2013 20:12

Thanks, Beverley, will take a look at those sites
Thanks to you MarieCeleste, will also take a look at that, maybe rootgatherer the Mrs Jane Doughty who died in 1908 was also known as Margaret. I'll see what births I can find West Mosley abt 1828 with a surname Dickie or Macfarlane.
Thank you all so much, a bit more detail to add to my tree !
Ishmael was the brother of my gg grandmother.

:-)

Not seeing any children born to them in Australia.

Not seeins Margaret's death or a re-marriage for her.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 20 Feb 2013 19:31

Found this on Trove, but it's a different wife's name:

Another of the early pioneers of the Stawell district has joined the great majority in the person of Mrs. Jane Doughty, relict of the late Ishmael Doughty. Deceased, who was born at West Mosley, Surrey, England, was 80 years of age.

The Horsham Times (Vic. : 1882 - 1954) Friday 28 February 1908)

There was also a mention of Ishmael Doughty in South Australian Register Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900) Monday 8 September 1856. They were advertising for the recipients of unclaimed letters at the post office.
