Thank you but have worked out it is Ascites - fluid collected in the peritenal cavity . The loopy 'e' of exhaustion loohed like a 'y' in Lycites - Thanks guys - mystery solved :-)

Could Cystitis or Pyelitis be possibilities?

It may be an error in the document, wrongly written at the time of registration or miscopied when it was sent to the GRO.

Hi
I have a detah cert for an ancestor dated 22 dec 1897. The man died of malignant bowel disease - 3 years, 'Lycites' 2 months and exhaustion -poor man :( does anyone know what 'Lycites ' is? cannot find anything anywhere. My mum had a look too- and she writes and can read old writing-and she can't make it read as anything else either! . Any ideas welcome -thank you :-)
