This spelling of Herringam appears to be unique, which means its most likely a spelling mistake. Birth cert will be only way to be certain.

Nearest I can find is this

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Jun 1914 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finch George Kerrigan Prestwich 8d 737
Kerrigan Norah Finch Prestwich 8d 737

This couple had children

Thimas Q4 1914
George Q3 1919

Her birth certificate will give you her mother's forename(s). Armed with that additional information look for a marriage betwen a male Finch and a female with that/those forename(s).

You will then need to either purchase a copy of the relevant Marriage certificate or research backwards to locate a female Herringham with that/those forename(s) .

Just hoping I hadn't pressed the right buttons! I've even tried Lancs BMD for 1890 onwards with just Finch in search with not even a close surname to herringam.

Nothing coming up on freebmd and no other children showing. Possibly the mother had been married before and the marriage would be in her married name. The birth cert will tell you all her previous names.

Hi Anita, it's possible that her mother had been married before so marriage would be in a different name to maiden name.

Given that period a lot of young women were widowed.

That's one scenario.

Perhaps she was previously married and married using her previous married name?
