Hollyhocks Report 25 Feb 2013 16:58

My Grandmothers first husband was born WILLIAM HENRY GREENGRASS
He was born illigitimate to Alice Greengrass in 1880.......it is believed he ran away to sea when he was quite young. I have his birth cert but no father is mentioned.

When he married my nan in 1906 he was 25 yrs of age and on their marriage
certificate his name is JAMES WILLIAM MACK.......His father's name on the
cert is JAMES HENRY MACK (Deceased) and he was a Carpenter.

Just to confuse things...on one of my nan's daughter's marriage cert it says
WILLIAM JAMES MACK as father.

My mother told me that it is believed he found his father and changed his name
(whether legally or not I do not know) to that of his father.

I would love to find his father's details and wondered if anyone could help ??

Unfortunately I do not know how old his father was, I have tried looking for a death for him but have been successful.

I appreciate this is a difficult task but someone might know a way of solviing
it.

Many thanks

Sandra

Penny Report 25 Feb 2013 17:08

Maybe he was a step father?

Penny

Penny Report 25 Feb 2013 17:09

How do you know they are both the same person?

Hollyhocks Report 25 Feb 2013 17:14

Hi Penny

I do not believe him to be a step-father, I have information into Alices' family.

I was given the story from my mother before she died, I also have living
cousins with the same knowledge......it was said he changed his name to Mack
when he discovered his father and ran away to sea.

I believe they are the same person.
