Find Ancestors

I have a Jessie Bruce b. 1842 Dundee (father Robert, mother unknown) In 1868 she married (regd. Kensington) a William T. Chandler b. 1845 Devizes and had a family.

I have her on 1871, 1881 and 1891 census returns living with her husband and family. However her husband died in 1891 and this is where I stop. I simply cannot locate her or her family on 1901 census. I do however have her in 1911 living with the elder of her two sons (William Robert Chandler) and his family in Paddington.

Failing to find her on 1901 I decided to try backwards to confirm her father as Robert and perhaps find her mother and any siblings. I have looked at both the England and Scotland census returns for 1861 and 1851 for a Jessie Bruce born 1842 Dundee but with absolutely no success.

Has anyone any suggestions as to where I could look now? Thanks

Any chance this has been recorded wrongly? No idea if she has a daughter Jane!

OOoooo I have found a Robert Bruce who is a soldier in Buckingham Palace!!!!

He is in the infantry Barracks Buckingham Palace but he is unmarried....

Oooo what a shame Mel - wouldn't that have been something !! Thank you all very much for trying. This is the second time over months I have searched for Jessie and her ancestors and | have decided now to call it a day. Some lines are just too too awkward so I will now throw in the towel.

A couple of thoughts. I wonder if her father died when she was young or she was illegimate and either way her mother remarried and Jessie is lurking under a different surname in 1851 and 1861 but reverted to her birth surname when she married.

Does the marriage certificate say she was a spinster please? Does it give an occupation for her? Does it give an ocupation for her father and did it say if he was deceased please?

Can't find it now but i have read father of jessie was Robert a tailor.
