There is a PH on the corner that was called the Travellers Rest, it now seems to be some sort of night club,
the original Travellers Rest dated back to the 1840's, but was rebuilt at a later date.

Ah Margee, thank you. I hadn't actually got as far as trying the 1911 census - I wasted so much time on 1901 and the various spellings of the surname. I see the place of birth is given as Sheffield, so maybe PoolGreen, Yorks is near Sheffield and his age seems to fit with the 1891 census, so I now have a rough idea of his year of birth.

Reggie - I knew his wife's maiden name via contact with a member of the Young family but who knew nothing other than she married William Pullen.

The address in 1881 is 13 Convent Gardens, Kensignton - don't think this is the same place as Covent Garden Market.

These two are living with him (the image has wife's mother on the image for the -; looks like he didn't know his mother-in-law well!

I have a bit of a problem here. I have a William Pullen married to Emily. My first sighting of him is on 1881 census living Covent Gardens, London. He is given as age 30 a journeyman painter and plumber and has children Louisa, Emily and William living with them. On 1891 Census he is given as age 45 a painter(aged 15 years in 10 years !) with wife Emily and children Dolpher(Louisa), Emily, Albert, Mabel, Ethel and Hubert and his birthplace is given as PoolGreen, Yorks. Well search as I may I cannot find him on 1901 census to see what place of irth is given and also what age. Simply, I cannot determine his year or place of birth in order to progress backwards to the next generation. I also cannot trace a marriage for himself and Emily (nee Young). I have tried the spelling differently ie Pullen, Pullan, Pullin and still cannot locate him. What else can I do ? Thanks
