Re: the trees and marriages on Ancestry that Mike refers to - there is a copy of the marriage certificate to George Carter in 1913.

Henrietta Elizabeth Kerr is referred to as a spinster and her father is listed as William Henry Kerr (deceased) - Oil Cloth dealer.

When she marries William Turner Devine (as Henrietta Elizabeth Carter, widow) on 26 Dec 1917 the father's details are exactly the same as the 1913 marriage.

Looking at census and baptisms William Henry Kerr's occupation varies between general dealer, lithographic printer, auctioneer so I'd say Oil Cloth dealer fits right in.

She wouldn't be the first to marry bigamously under her maiden name.

Too true Mike!

Looked for a divorce but no sign. (I know people think divorce was beyond the reach of ordinary folk back then but there were lawyers who handled the cases on an "in forma pauperis" basis).
