Hi there I'm stuck searching for an ancestor. I'm trying to go back from Elizabeth Elliker. I have the marriage certificate that states her father.

July 26th 1844 marriage between Robert Watson and Elizabeth Elliker in the Parish of Holy trinity Hull. Both fathers named (so presume alive) William Watson and David Elliker both listed as Labourers by profession. Witnesses are William Watson and Hannah Watson.

The census state Elizabeth was born in Howden, Yorkshire.

I know this information is correct, Robert was a cabinet maker in census and on marriage certificates. I'm really keen on going backwards with the Elliker's, but hitting a brick wall, any help appreciated x

Yes I've spotted this but it doesn't give much away. I assumed rightly or wrongly that with her father David been named on the marriage that he was still alive in 1844 as I thought they put deceased instead if they are dead. But this been the case I cannot find a David Elliker in 1841anywhere

No, the status of a father was not always recorded correctly, he could well have been dead at the time of her marriage
