Hi everyone, please can anybody help. I am trying to dot a few i's and cross a few t's. I am fairly certain that I have at last found a couple of my ancestors, but need some details/confirmation. Mary Gott born Dec 9 1797 married Richard Smith April 1814 but when did she die? When was Richard born and when did he die? I am fairly sure that Mary's parents were William Gott and Ann (maiden name Harle) but I cannot find any details of their birth marriage or deaths. The same applies to Richards parents whom I think are William Smith and Dorothy (maiden name Brown). William and Mary may have married in 1785.
All people mentioned were born, lived etc. in Northumberland, possibly in and around Tynemouth.
I would be very grateful for any info that you may be able to "dig" up.
Many thanks Iain

Are Mary and Richard on 1841 census?

Where have you looked in trying to find info?

There is also a record on the IGI for Mary Gott with parents William Gott and Ann HALL

This is dated 1796

The marriage for that couple is on the IGI.

Do you have any proof that the birth 1797/baptism 1798 you refer to is the Mary who married Richard Smith?

According to an Ancestry tree William GOT was born 1762 in Darlington and died 24 Dec 1831 North Shields
Ann Harle was born 6 May 1759 Bedlington and died 19 Aug 1847 North Shields

Hi Reggie, Barry and Gins
Sorry I could not reply sooner, transport problem.
Yes I found Jane Gott Smith and Robert on the 1841 Census.
The info you have all supplied has enabled me to fill in a hole or two.
Many thanks for your time and efforts. I am albeit rather slowly getting to grips with GR and all of its many aspects, one day I may even find an ancestor all by myself.
Best wishes to you all
Iain

Bear in mind that in 1841 the ages of over-15's were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest '5'

While researching my Hall ancesters in Northumberland & Durham & have found that sometimes Hall is written as Harle (think of the accent).
