It might be worth checking out any Nevilles' in the area just prior to the date of birth, at an appropriate age.

Thank you. Unfortunately my mum and grandmother have passed but I will certainly go and check the baptism records

Have you found her baptism record ?

I have a birth certificate for one of my ancestors with no father named.... but he's named as "errant father" on the parish christening record !

Hello Linda, I wouldn't assume that the name 'Neville' is your grandfather's name, it might just be a name that features somewhere in your mum's mother's line.

Realistically unless anyone still alive knows personal details, you won't be able to find out..unless the father paid anything for his child's keep? and documentation still exists?

If there is no father named on the birth certificate and your mother doesn't know her father's name then anything would be based on guesswork. Neville may be either a given name or surname.
