Find Ancestors

I am wondering if anyone could tell me how I might be able to find a marriage pre 1837?

My 4x great grandad John Clarke was born around 1800 and was christened on the 25th of May 1800 in Adstock, Bucks. His first child James was born in 1818 in Great Berkhampstead, Herts. According to the 1841 census John is married to a woman called Elizabeth who was born in Water End, Herts also around 1800.

Does anyone know how I might be able to find John and Elizabeths marriage?

James' mother was not definitely Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the mother of my 3x great grandfather Daniel who was born in Little Gaddesden, Herts in 1839. James was Johns first child and Daniel his last child.


I have Johns children as James 1818, William 1821, Charles 1824, Sophia 1826, John 1828, Ellen 1830, Thomas 1833, George 1835 and Daniel 1839.
James and William were born in Great Berkhampstead all the subsequent children were born in Little Gaddesden.

The James born 7 Aug 1822 died 17h Aug, just 10 days old.

Do you know if that is the right James ?

I now have Daniels birth cert which says his mothers maiden name was Elizabeth Chappel. However I have still been unable to find her marriage and wondered if anyone else could find it?
