With this, could I see the probabte index information for the John Scott (1788-1861) father of Jane Scott?

I am hoping he left a will, but may have been to poor.

Peter, the probate records only show who the executors of a will were and they may or may not be benificiaries. The only way to find that out is to get a copy of the will. The will of George Robinson d 1891 might possibly mention George R Scott. This site tells how to get a copy of a will:

I'm just wondering if the probates of other family members may help?! Hmmmmm.

I suspect not, but maybe something will be yeilded?

I've found these on the National Burial Index;

1) George's (1811-1891) father, also George Robinson (born 1779) who died 11 May 1845
2) George's (1811-1891) brother, William Robinson (born 1806) who died about 4 June 1876
3) Another brother Thomas Robinson who died about 8 August 1889.
4) Mary Ann Robinson (nee Holmes) who died about 12 May 1884.

All are buried in the churchyard at Patrick Brompton, North Yorkshire.

Finally, the probate of George Henry Robinson (born 1862) who seems to have died about 8 April 1935 and is buried in Appleton Wiske.

No rush as I don't think this will yeild anything but worth a try?!

Cheers,

Peter

Thank you Potty! And I did look for the Bastardy Orders nothing seemed to show. Hmmm interesting.

So if George Robinson (1811-1891) did father George Robinson SCOTT (1842-1890), it seems they were not connected after the birth- after all, he would of then had TWO sons named George.

With this, as I said earlier in the thread, George Robinson SCOTT went by the name of George Robinson from at LEAST 1860 when he first married. On his first marriage, Geore Robinson, a labourer, recorded no father's details. However, he was widowed a few years later and his second marriage showed him to be the son of George Robinson a labourer. Now, of course, this George Robinson was a land owning farmer.

Hmmm I don't know really. I suppose I'm looking for an answer I'll never be able to get. It would be just nice to confirm that George Robinson the farmer (1811-1891) was the father of George Robinson (Scott, 1842-1891).

Again opinions welcome. And thank you for all the support so far.

Death Date: 5 Jan 1891

Thank you again Potty - as George died in 1891, I assume he must have left a will?

Is there one?

Thank you again for all of this help!

Very possible that George Robinson was George Scott's father but Jane may just have named him after her employer's son - you could try searching for a baptism or Bastardy Order - this site has some for North Yorkshire:

Peter Report 9 Mar 2013 18:39

Thank you Potty! Much appreciated again.

Can I ask for look ups for George and his wife Mary Ann Holmes? I have a possibility of George dying about 6 January 1891 (looked on the burial index 3, in Patrick Brompton). It also seems from looking at the IGI using the 1841 that he was born 26 August 1811, and was baptised in Patrick Brompton, Yorkshire.

His parents were George and Alice Robinson (nee Stephenson).

His brother William was born 26 August 1806. So, it seems both may have been a bit liberal with their ages on the 1851 census.

It seems most LIKELY he was the father of George Robinson SCOTT, based on his age. So, he is in fact an ancestor of mine. What do you think?

Cheers,

Peter

Peter

I have sent you the images of the 1841 for Jane Scott and the 1851 for George R Scott. I will see if I can find the Robinsons in 1851.

Peter

Peter Report 8 Mar 2013 16:14

Hi Potty! Yes! Oh my word! I ASSUME that the George Robinson is the 1841 is the father of my ancestor George Robinson (1842-1890)! Oh my word. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

HOw bizarre! Can I see the origonal of this please? And do the family appear in the 1851?! Oh wow! Thank you so much. This would explain a lot and allow me to research a branch of my family that is usually not possible for other cases of illegitimacy!

Also, thank you for the probate and the yes, you have the Scott-Russell marriage! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you this is great. Yes, I descend from the George Robinson Scott, show as the step son in the 1851 census. Fascinating.

I have looked for the Hauxwell's in the 1881 but nothing ... are they about after 1871, in the census not shown here?

Can I please have a look up for William's probabte (assuming he had one)?
