Hi Reggie, marriage record from ancestry and my friend confirmed this. He was born at the end of 1956. Prickly Holly I saw this entry but my friend Ken is adamant that Doris birthday was 28th Feb 1913 and I thought births had to be registered within a certain timescale

The GRO record only gives the name in use at the time of the marriage

The MMN on the 1956 birth record is Rudrum

Interestingly, there is an identical birth reg'n in 1948

Your friend could have been given inaccurate info about his mother's birthday

Reggie several years ago Ken told me that his mother was in actual fact also his half sister. He wasn't told about this until he was an adult and he seemed very confused! i'm starting to wish I'd not taken this on for him

Maybe it was just a simple case of her name entered on the marriage cert as...

Doris E.........instead of.......Ethel D.

thank you Andy I'd got the probate info and agree Prickly Holly she perhaps swapped the Doris and Ethel around during her life; perhaps Edith on death certificate
was a mistake either by informant or registrar. I need to try and find her parents now but at this point I don't want to send of for certificates as its not for myself

if thats the right birth then looks like her mum was single
