just to complicate things I've spent ages looking this birth up on ancestry as could only find match in 1915 but now after cross referencing its the same entry so must be mistake on their part

Shirley this is all brilliant, thanks. I found the electoral register stuff and it does look like Florence maybe mother. I think William A Rudrum was married before so perhaps in actual fact Kens mother was one of his children so basically what was meant was that his half sister was his mother and his Dad actually grandfather as he was pretty old when Ken was born

William Arthur Rudrum was born 1901 married May Winifred Clarke 1925 she died 1954 address 61,claremont Rd probate £316 to Willian A Rudrum a Ledger Clerk.

Can't get my head round the idea that Kens mum was his half sister.

Thanks Mary it's starting to make sense. Presumably William and Mary would have had children and they married over twenty years before Ken came on the scene. Mary dying in 1954 left him free to marry again and that's where Ethel Doris comes in and then one of his daughters is a pregnant single mum so perhaps they were more than happy to take on Ken. He has a right hang up about not been told anything until he was in his twenties

that sounds more the scenario .his birth cert would solve the question of who his mum was

if you look on FreeBMD theres 1 son and 4 girls born to William and may.

Any of the girls could be kens mum as they all married after he was born

thanks I reckon that clears up the Rudrum bit for me so I'll try do a bit more with Tyson just cos he wants to know more and no he regarded Doris Ethel as his mum

Do we actually know if Ken was born 1948 or 1956 seeing as there are two different birth records for a Kenneth J .

Ken was definately born in 1956

I have got Ethel Doris birth certificate which confirms date, mother Florence, no fater and that she was born at 77 swallowfield road, springfield, wandsworth and states this was mothers residence and she was domestic servant, 72 Doggett Road, I think it says Catford not sure of first letter but still can't find Florence in 1911 census. I would value any help as unsure as how to find out who was living in a particular house on a census. Thank you
