Just because you have been unable to find any records does not mean that you are doing anything wrong.

The records that you are looking for may not exist or if they do exist may not yet be in the public domain.

P.S. I believe that the Black and Tans which was the term given to those who served with the Royal Irish Constabulary. It was disbanded in 1922 so unlikely that anyone born in 1907 would have served with them.

Researching:
Don't put off until tomorrow doing what you can do today. If you like doing it today you can do it again tomorrow. Be kind to your children for it is they who will decide which care home you end up in.

we are looking for military records on my partners grandfather named ... mr Charles Shaw, he was born in 1907 in ironville derbyshire, we know he went into the army but haven't a clue what year, we were told he was in the black and tans but there is no evidence to support that... we know his army days were between the world war 1 and w
w2 .... but a deceased relative informed us that he was dishonorably discharged
his father also Charles Shaw was in the sherwood foresters, and we have those records, but cannot trace this Charles career ,,,
he did move to johnson street in chesterfield,
we have searched but coming up with nothing, i must be doing something wrong
