Hi,
I wonder if someone could look at something for me and see if they think the same as me !!!! Two pairs of eyes and all that :-D

I have a Doris E Holden born Dec 1920 in East Grinstead to Florence G Holden.
On her brothers death cert (Frederick Thomas Holden) she was informant, that was 1949, and she was listed as Doris E Thorndale.
Now her Mother Florence married a Russell W Thorndale in 1924 in East Grinstead so do you think Doris just took Thorndale as a surname?

Frederick Thomas Holden born 1918, was married to my Aunt - I DO HAVE WEDDING AND DEATH INFO ON FREDERICK. I also have info re Florence thanks.

ANY HOLDEN OR THORNDALE FAMILY OUT THERE ???????

Regards
Sally

Any info would be brill thanks :-)

I am not connected to the family in any way, but just wanted to say that illegitimate children who were kept by their mothers often "adopted" their step-father's surname.

It certainly happened in our family when my grandmother had her eldest son out of wedlock. He was always known by his step-father's surname as his mother married just over a year after her eldest son was born.

Hello Kath,

Thank you for your reply.
Well it did look a lot like that is what happened. !!!!
The thing is i am trying to go down the route of contacting the family, but wanted to try to make sure ( as much as you can of course !!!!) that i had the correct family. :-)

Regards
Sally

Hi Sally
My father took the name of my Grandmothers
partner even though they were not married, his own father died
when he was 3 years old.
my maiden name is also from this partner.
as that is the name used by my father when he married my mother.
So it happened a lot more than we think.

If you are looking for Holden or Thorndale family members, have you used 'search all trees' to identify anyone in genes who has the family in their tree?
