GB, thank you I suspect I have some professional witnesses on the various marriages posted - especially if they have the same surnames.

GlitterBaby Report 16 May 2013 12:48

Do not forget that a lot of the earlier marriages might have had professional witnesses. such as church wardens etc, so unless you can view a lot of images on the same page and spot that the names keep appearing then they might not be related at all

Not even finding a Joseph Broom as an Ag. Lab. or farm servant !

JannieAnnie

JannieAnnie Report 16 May 2013 12:35

I suspect that 'farmer' could mean an agricultural labourer - another of mine has 'Farmer' on the marriage cert but the certs for her siblings show agricultural labourer - suspect it was to 'upgrade' for the marriage cert.

Not seeing Eliza with father Joseph, a Farmer, prior to her marriage - even looking at the surname as Brown or Broom

Aaah Rootgatherer, no wonder it couldn't be found - i couldn't even read the bride's name properly, that is the one (still looks like Brown to me on the image) and I had the year wrong again.

Think I had better spend the rest of the afternoon checking (and amending) my stuff .

Thanks for your help with this, it is much appreciated

I have just looked at the image I saved - and it is very blobby ( no excuse I know), am just trying to find it on freebmd - and nothing coming up - so will have to go back to the Library and try to find it again, obviously my proofreading skills of my work are deteriorating.

Thanks for your help with the others though

Good Morning Everyone

I am adding to this thread as it is similar type of help I need please.

Having booked time at my local Library computer, I have collated a number of online images of marriage certificates but having trouble - in deciphering details because of the writing. Any help would be much appreciated (there are quite a few - baker's dozen!)

1. Marriage of George Tucker to Elizabeth Pound on 30 October 1819 – I cannot decipher the witnesses’ names – they look like Fanny Hill Tucker (??) and Christiana Southgate?

2. Marriage of William John Thompson to Eliza White on 6 February 1822 – I cannot decipher the witnesses’ names – they look like William White and Mrs White Jnr???

3. Marriage of William Green to Sarah Shears on 20 July 1835 – their witnesses look like David -- not sure of surname - and a Mrs Jackson (think she is probably a serial marriage witness!)

4. Marriage of George Alexander Plunkett to Harriet Payton on 18 February 1842 – he lived at Woods Buildings but I cannot work out the name of her residence at time of marriage – it looks something like ???man’s Row

5. Marriage of Henry Steel to Isabella Tait on 13 September 1844 – I cannot decipher the witnesses’ names – the second might be Jane Tait but the first could be anything

6. Marriage of William Thompson to Eliza Brown 21 May 1846 – I cannot decipher one of the witnesses’ names – or the occupations of the groom or the fathers! Also what is the note in the margin?

7. Marriage of Thomas Owen to Elizabeth Brown on 17 July 1849 – is anyone able to decipher the street name for Thomas Owen’s residence at time of marriage please?

8. Marriage of James Rattle to Isabella Clement on 25 August EDIT 1849 (not 1856 - see following from rootgather) - The witnesses on this register entry please – looks like Henry Fagg (?) and presumably Mrs – but I cannot read her name at all!

9. Marriage of George Plunkett to Caroline Green on 25 December 1862 – who were their witnesses please?

10. Marriage of George Wardle to Isabella Steele on 17 May 1868 - The witnesses on this register entry please – Nathaniel Boocock and someone Kelly

11. Marriage of George John Tucker to Harriet Plunkett on 18 May 1890 who were their witnesses please? It looks like George Plunkett and a Mary Ann somebody? Also what was the groom’s occupation please?

12. Marriage of Francis Kellow to Elizabeth Ambrose on 24 December 1904 -.The witnesses were Ernest Albert Kellow and Daisy Glen…..something?

13. Marriage of George John Tucker to Elizabeth Schwarz on 25 December 1912 - Their witnesses were George Tucker, and who else please?.

Just in case anyone thinks I just enjoy collecting random marriages - I'm not, all these people are connected to me (or I am connected to them!)

Thank you to any eagle-eyed members out there.
