is it possible to find out where a family were living in 1890 in messingham lincolnshire or where the father was working (probably general labourer) I do not need the 1891 census as i have that and the family had left messingham by then
They had 3 children under 5 in 1890 The youngest born in Messingham in February 1890 so they cant have been walking the streets How can I find them as the 100 year block is past I was hoping there might be some records i could access There is no birth certificate for the February birth in1890 but there is a baptism in April 1890 in Messingham I have been trying to progress on this for a long time Many Thanks Pam

Pam, as far as I know there are unlikely to be records which give the info you seek.
The best bet is to pin down that birth if you can - are you 100% certain it isn't on the indexes?
If you put details on here maybe one of us can find it (unless you have tried this previously!).

I agree with Jan. You are unlikely to find records that will give you an address in 1890 unless you find the birth certificate.

Most births would have been registered by 1890. Have you checked on different spellings for the surname? How do you know the youngest was born in February 1890 if you haven't found the birth certificate or is the birth date mentioned on the baptism record?

If you give us details of the family someone may be able to find something which will help.

There is definately no Birth Certificate but i have exact date of birth as the person was in Police Force and it is on his records Even the experts at WDYTYA have been unable to find birth certificate Some of my older threads give the full details of this person William George Stowe but I thought I would take a fresh look at it coming from another angle, like medical records of where baby was born and where theFather was working I would love to solve this mystery They had many children from 1896 onwards and they all have a birth certifucate except William George and he was the only child born in Lincolnshire all the other children were born in Dalton Lancashire However, William George's Father came from Lincolnshire as did the other ancestors and I have all of those details I felt they must have left Dalton Lancahire sometime between 1888 after the 2nd child was born maybe for employment as they are back in Dalton in 1891 so the missing period is 1888-1890 With 2 young children and pregnant with 3rd where were they? Thanks for trying to help Pam

Could this birth be a possibility. I know you have the year of birth as 1890 but the police records could be wrong. My father's army records have the right day and month of birth but the year is out as he lied about his age and so could your man have done:-

Name: STOWE, George William
Registration district: Gainsborough
County: Lincolnshire
Year of registration: 1888
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume no: 7A
Page no: 726

I know the first two names are transposed but that often happened in the past.

we have other evidence that confirms his year of birth as 1890. His older siblings were born 1886-1888 i have contacted the local registration but they were unable to find anything i have spoken to the Messingham local history society at the WDYTUR a couple of weeks ago and thery have been trying to solve this with me for the last few years they suggested this time to look at where his Father was working and was that the reason he left Dalton Lancashire for a brief period to work in Messingham I believe there was work on going on a new railway link during this period and that was another suggestion i was given to see where he was working. he was living back in Dalton by the time the 1891 census ws taken The missing years are 1888-1890 thank you to everyone still trying to help i have copies of all of the certificates suggested by you all and they do not contain any details to move this in another direction thanks again Pam

for ref purpose William Charles Stow was born on 10th April 1890 to William John Stow and Margaret Marshall and appears in 1891 census as Charles age 11 months so this cant be my William George
I have been having another look at the burial on 4th Feb 1890 of William George Stow and have not found the death entry in GRO in that period nor is there a birth entry but of course this may be a birth/death on same day
As my William George Stow has a birth date of 27th Feb 1890 in Messingham does anyone have any interesting scenarios for this, I would be most pleased to hear to help solve this mystery of why there is no birth certificate.for my William George Many Thanks Pam

Where is William 1901 and 1911?

As he seems elusive with that birth place.?

Has the 1891 image been looked at?

Could he have had a later registration if it was realised his birth hadnt been done?

Have you looked into Will snr family as W G may have been a child of a married sister who died in child birth?
