Frances, rock buns will be fine, but I prefer them without mixed peel, if that's OK.

I've taken the liberty of copying over the request above to your thread about Rhoda so that I don't get mixed up with the families!

Good Morning MarieCeleste, would some homemade shortbread or rock buns be a suitable substitute for buscuits - lol

I appreciate it is my job to keep you occupied with difficult requests and I would love to know whether your sources can add to my search in Family Search this morning.
Previously we (you) found :
1851
LAMBERT, Margaret Head Widow F 68 1783
Bradford, Yorkshire
>>>LONG, Sarah Daughter Widow F 33 1818 Stuff Weaver
Bradford, Yorkshire
>>>LONG, Rhoda Grand Daughter F 12 1839 Attg School
Bradford, Yorkshire
>>>LONG, Job Grand Son M 9 1842 Attg School
Bradford, Yorkshire
>>>LONG, Ellen Grand Daughter F 3 1848
Bradford, Yorkshire

Mother and daughter seem to have trouble keeping their husbands (alive)

From other info sent to me I have progressed to find the marriage For Sarah's parents
Robert Lambert Marriage: 14 Apr 1803 Thornton in Craven, Yorkshire
Spouse : Margaret Wilkinson

and siblings
Male 13 Oct 1803, Jenny 23 Jun 1805, John 10 Oct 1808, Stephen 21 Nov 1810, Batch C10583-2

but then the trail goes cold. I haven't found a birth for Sarah c.1817 or any others.

Does the 1841 census for Margaret show up - I guess she should have been in Bradford by then.

Frances, never mind sitting watching TV while we're searching around - get that kettle on! A nice biscuit wouldn't come amiss, either. :-)

You don't necessarily have to stop when FamilySearch does, you can always ask and we can see if there is any info on parish records on Ancestry or FMP.

Thank you again MarieCeleste for looking after me. I can watch TV in the evening knowing Zelda's tree is in safe hands. This is one of my best researchings ever, from her in 1950 (with her sat by my side, only telling me I had the right people) back to many of her ancestors 1800ish. You have to stop when Family Search stops giving sensible potential suggestions, but at least they are likely to be confirmed by census !

Possible baptism shows actual birth date:

West Yorkshire, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1910

Name: Martin Field
Birth Date: 2 Sep 1832
Parish: Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral)
Baptism Date: 4 Nov 1832
Father's Name: Joseph Field
Mother's name: Elizabeth Field

Joseph was a comber which ties in with the marriage of Martin to Ann Dickinson, and also with the occupation of Joseph on the 1841.
................................................................................................................

Bit more on Ann

Name Birth Date Parish Baptism Date Parent Names

Ann Field 2 Feb 1834 Bradford, St Peter (Bradford Cathedral) 14 Feb 1834 Joseph Field,Elizabeth Field

The Thomas baptised 1836 and Benjamin baptised 1838 are not their children - their father is listed as a cordwainer (shoemaker) and the Joseph we're looking at is consistently a wool comber. I've found those two children with a different Joseph and Betty on the 1841.

I have been going backwards and forwards through this thread and the concensus of opinion seems to favour Martin Field marrying Ann Dickinson, which gives his father as Joseph.
In family search there is a Martin Field :

Martin Field 04 Nov 1832 Bradford, Yorkshire Father: Joseph Field Mother: Elizabeth
Ann 14 Feb 1834, Thomas 07 Oct 1836, Benjamin 1838

Is there an 1841 census for this family pleaseI?

Frances Report 17 Mar 2013 11:43

Yes, MarieCeleste, you at least still have your memory intact! I have found where I copied and pasted your previous post into my file, now 7 pages long in Word. I keep drinking the coffee .....

MarieCeleste Report 17 Mar 2013 11:33

Frances, just have a nice cuppa and digest the info! I posted both Henry and Martin's marriages on page 1. I also posted this:

This is quite possibly the death of his first wife:

England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index, 1837-1915

Name: Mary Field
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1903
Age at Death: 32
Registration district: Bradford
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Volume: 9b
Page: 22

I guess it's likely that Henry and Agnes didn't officially marry.

Frances

Frances Report 17 Mar 2013 10:52

just seen your last post Mary and of course in wasn't Martin married Agnes. I think this thread is having serious effects on my brain!

Frances

Frances Report 17 Mar 2013 10:48

I can't find a marriage for Martin and Agnes in FreeBMD and the only death that seems to fit Mary is :-
Deaths Dec 1908
FIELD Mary 68 Bradford
9b 84

Without her surname there is no way of looking for her born in Cumberland either - if that is the true place.

Mary

Mary Report 17 Mar 2013 10:35

1901 Bradford east D2 > 9
Henry Field.

1901 Bradford East D3 > 12
34 Brooklyn st
Agnes Crompton born Ulverston 1865

These address are very close to each other, could this be the Agenes with henry in 1911??

Regarding marriage of Martin and Ann Dickinson.
On 1861 census they had Thomas @ 1857 and Samuel 1869/60.He maybe died 1862
1871 Thomas D Field.

There is this baptism for Thomas Denbigh Field 22/4/1856 just says baptised by Field and Field of Thornton Road male Field a draper.

I can't find a birth to match,so was he born a Field or Dickinson??
I can't find him after 1871 but there was a death for a tom Field born : 1857 died 1879 Bradford.

Maryb.

Yes, you're right Mary - you're eyesight is sharper than mine.

It's as though the info on the 1911 census isn't strictly truthful, instead of 5 children born 3 died should it not say 5 born, 1 died and 1 sent to live with relatives? Makes me wonder if Henry even knew at that time that John was still alive. Perhaps the child had been very ill (hence the private baptism) and then went to live with relatives in a quieter household. If he needed extra care and attention maybe Henry couldn't cope with that after Mary died or perhaps Agnes didn't want to look after a sickly child.

Frances

Frances Report 17 Mar 2013 10:15

Hi MarieCeleste and Mary,
I had been putting in my tree the 1859 marriage of Martin with father Joseph then looking back through my Field file I saw the 1891 census from this thread and you are right, the marriage details don't fit so I'm still short of the true Martin/Ann marrige....

Mary

Mary Report 17 Mar 2013 09:58

Had a look at baptism for William Field and it has a very faded 3 at the side of 1 George Court.
William died April 1903.
