Anne,

Wow that is some mistranscription! I have the 1901 census from GR where was this one from Ancestry ?
He was a widow in 1901 btw

I have seriously been thinking outside the box but keep coming up blank and now I have a headache lol

Petra,
Think outside the box. The Carrs must be mistrancribed somewhere....

How about this for a mistranscription?
This original clearly say CARR.
Joseph is a ships riveter and he is a WIDOWER
Therefore, Mary Jane must have died between 1891 and 1901... presumably in Jarrow?

Anne yes he did I have got the research on that , as she came from Brompton in Kent near the dockyard which is where he was working

Trying to check this out, but I think Joseph, born 1840 married Ellen Julia Sullivan in Kent 1863
*****Joseph Carr Jan-Feb-Mar 1863 Medway Kent
George Mitchell Jan-Feb-Mar 1863 Medway Kent
******Ellen Julia Sullivan Jan-Feb-Mar 1863 Medway Kent
Eliza Tassell Jan-Feb-Mar 1863 Medway Kent

As Far as I know, Bromptom ( place of birth for Ellen on all returns1871 -1901 returns) is part of Medway

Hi Anne,

Yes I have the 1871 census in front of me here, I printed this one off GR I think it may be the one on ancestry ? that has been mistranscribed? As on thsi one I have it shows her as being 26 but it also says on this one that all children apart from the last one John william were born in kent, John william was born in durham it says

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 19 Mar 2013 14:39

Hi Petra,
Looking at the 1871 census in Durham, Joseph was a 29yr old shipwright born in Scotland, but his wife Ellen was 26yrs old and mistranscribed at 96!
The census says all children were born in Brompton, Kent

wolfdogowner Report 19 Mar 2013 14:24

sorry it was josephs son b1864 that was born in kent

wolfdogowner Report 19 Mar 2013 14:21

although all records i have for a Joseph Carr say he was born in 1842 although we know that some census info is wrong, I also have that he was born in Brompton Kent... :-S

wolfdogowner Report 19 Mar 2013 14:18

OK Anne Thank you on 1841 census I have it states that john and susan were born in Ireland and you are right it is looking as if Joseph was actually born in 1840

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 19 Mar 2013 14:14

Lets go back to the start:
This is the 1841 census found by Bev and added to the deleted post
Both parents on this are entered as NOT born in Scotland, although both children's place of birth is Renfrewshire. ( Nothing on FS or SP under Kerr or Carr)

Freecen shows place of birth for John ans Susan as IRELAND

1841 Scotland Census about John Kerr
Name: John Kerr
Age: 30
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811
Gender: Male
Where born: Foreign Parts
Civil parish: Neilston
County: Renfrewshire
Address: Neilston Village
Occupation: Tailor J
Parish Number: 572
Household Members:
Name Age
John Kerr 30
Susan Kerr 25
Mary Kerr 3
Joseph Kerr 11mo

As Joseph is aged 11 months on this return, and census was taken on 6 Jun 1841, it suggests that Joseph was born circa July 1840

Having trouble finding anything on Mary Jane Hunnam other than her marriage to Joseph Carr! Can anyone help ?.................I am looking into her family as I am trying to trace a Gledhill or Gleadhill somewhere along the line. It has ended up as my surname but I now know it to be my gt grandads middle name as it was my grandads middle name. I thought it was perhaps a maiden name kept as a middle name down the line.

Hello Petra,

The only place to go for Scottish records is the Scotland's People site. It's pay per view but excellent.

Don't worry about ruffling feathers.....we were all new once. ;-)
