Find Ancestors

I am looking for any information on the above people, I know they were born in Scotland and moved to Durham I am looking for marriage records but I think they were married in Scotland as all their children were born in Scotland

Might be worth a try on FamilySearch first, just in case https://familysearch.org

Civil Registration began in Scotland in 1855 before that you would need the Old Parish Registers so as already suggested start with family search

Of the John Carrs who married in Scotland between 1830 and 1840, none married a Susannah or any variation of that.
One John Kerr married a Susan, but their children's names are different from those in the 1851 census.

The 1851 family don't show up in the 1841 Scotland census, as far as I can see.

Also, there was no Joseph Carr or Kerr, nor any William Carr or Kerr, born in Scotland around the years of the 1851 children's births, to parents called John or Susan/Susannah..

Ok thank you for this information, I have been going off the 1851 census which shows the family and states that all on this census were born in scotland, but we do know that sometimes these are filled out wrong. I have not been able to find this family ie john or susannah on any other census either, hmm strange....

If Susan was born in Ireland, they may have got married there.

There's a tree on Ancestry which suggests that Mary, Joseph, and William were born in Durham.
No help with John and Susannah's marriage, though.

hank you BeverleyW, I have to say the only Susan I could find any link to was Irish, so possible I suppose.

argyllgran, do you know how I can contact the tree owner that you have said about that suggests their children were born in Durham ?
I think this may be likely now seeing as the information BeverleyW put on here for me from 1861 shows that John and Susan Carr were lodgers and that she was from Ireland!

Well in 1861 according to the census, sons John and Joseph were born in Scotland. (It's John Jr. on the census with Susan, not her husband).
Susan is stated to be married but husband John Sr. is not with her and I can't see him at the moment.
Do you know what his occupation was?

Well Done Bev..... I was reading through this and was just about to suggest that the name could be Kerr.
Kerr and Carr are interchangeable.
This may sound quite odd but......my mum and her brother were born in Ireland in the 1930's
My mum's maiden name was always Kerr, but her brother has always been...Carr, even although they are FULL siblings, their birth records had different spellings.

The fluctuation between Carr and Kerr is apparent on many of my Irish family records right back to the mid 1800's.
I still don't know what my family's orginal name was???
