Hi there I'm new to research and looking for some help please. I am looking for as much infomation as possible on these 3 family members,

Phillis May Jeffrey aged 3 listed in 1911 census as granddaughter of Robert Jeffrey, Berwick upon tweed.?

Harriet Jeffrey daughter of Robert Jeffrey and Harriett Jeffrey age 14 born 1897 Portobello Edinburgh. possible hariot harriot later on, She later married samuel hodgson mcknight.



Leslie jeffrey born circa 1920 possibly edinburgh? Son of Harriett Jeffrey above (daughter of Robert Jeffrey). possible death cert 1948

Hi Reggie thanks for that, Although Harriet and possibly Leslie were born in Edinburgh Scotland I think that they remained in England for the rest of their days Phillis was born in England according to the census

Robert snr was s/o James Jeffrey & Barbara. he´s on the 1861 Scotland census because Berwick on Tweed was in Scotland at that time.
In 1901 the family is in Leith with 2 other daughters Jane b 1887 & Ellen b 1890.
My guess is that Phyllis May is the illegitimate daughter of one of those two.

Wonderful infomation from you both. Is there anything on Leslie Jeffrey illegitimate son of Harriet (daughter) other than a birth in 1920 edinburgh as I would like to confirm his death possible 1948 in England,
He was supposed to have committed suicide but i cannot find any death cert at all.

I think you already know this , but there is definitely a birth for Leslie in Edinburgh.

The only death I can find for a Leslie Jeffrey born 1920 is in 1985 in Nottingham.

The only death of a Leslie Jeffrey in Scotland from 1940-2011 was in 2004, and that ties in with a Leslie Jeffrey born in Lanarkshire in 1919.

Kucinta thanks agin for this I was told he was born in 1920 and it was possible that his birth place was Edinburgh, so that ties in.

He 's reported to have died in 1948 by drowning in England,

I wonder if he took the name McKnight when his mother married?

I didn't have enough credits to check the full record for Leslie's birth, but the basic ref seems to tie in with what you know/surmised.

I had already looked for Leslie's death under McKnight but drawn a blank.

As you can see, this enumeration is from Lauder in Berwickshire.
Berwickshire has been part of Scotland since 1020. It was named after its original county town, Berwick-upon-Tweed, which has been part of England since 1482 (although it changed hands more than a dozen times between these 2 dates). Lauder is in the NE part of the county, abt midway between Edinburgh and Berwick by the inland route.
