Hi All on this cold and snowy day.....

I seem to remember when typing in a name on the search facility it would give alternatives.......i.e Henry for Harry........Betty for Elizabeth etc..........
wheres it gone.

I am looking for a person with the name John and was hoping it would give me alternatives.

Any suggestions ?

Occasionally John can be entered on census and travel docs as "Jno"

Hi Liliesnan - do you now anything else about him, like spouse, children, when he died, etc?

Where did you get the possible mother's names from?

lilliesnan

lilliesnan Report 25 Mar 2013 20:28

Sorry its not much help

How did you connect to him originally? (Just trying to get a hard fact to work from).

Hi MarieCeleste - Sorry got called away for a while.

Briefly....... have a different John Cashmore in my tree, as in a previous post, he was transported to VDL as a convict from Oakthorpe in 1836........ I made contact with someone with a John Cashmore but a different one.....although there may be a link to Convict John which is what I am trying to find. I don't have any confirmed parents for Convict John but maybe William ?

The only facts I have are that the 2nd John was born Birmingham about 1830, parents John Cashmore and Sarah or Amelia......possible marriage to Mary Desmond in Australia about 1855........Trees I have seen all say born Birmingham but give no details are to where the information comes from.

Sorry ....but really appreciate you taking time to help

Illesnan,
It may be a process of elimination but based on the 1855 marrige and the birth records for their children, John Cashmore and his wife Mary Ann Desmond lived in Victoria.

Many birth deaths and marriges can be found for their children on ancestry ( too much to post).
Although it can be time consuming, this is what I would do...
use the info from the trees that you saw, and then search for the children's marriage announcements in the newspapers
If there are articles, they should say if father John Cashmore is living or deceased at the time.
Next step is to try and whittle it down to a potential death year ( or time scale) then search again for his death announcement.
If it exists, it may give some familial info.
Choose newspapers from Victoria and then click on family announcements
