I am researching for a friend, his greatgreat grandparents were
William and Dinah A Messruther, in 1911 census living Scarborough
with seven children and one granddaughter, full address may help
confirm my belief that they changed their name from Messinger,
Marriage 1893 Scarborough Dinah A Cammish to William Messinger,
1901 census living 90 Quay Street Scarborough, William Messinger 34
Dinah Messinger 30, Thomas Camnish 9,William A Messinger 6,
George Messinger 3, John W Messinger 1, other than Thomas same
names in 1911 census, if same address puzzle solved, if correct all
Messruthers in England originated from this name change.
John W born 1899 Scarborough surname is recorded as Messruther,
Dinah Ann Hammish born 1867 Scarborough, can not find birth for
William Messinger 1865-1870, but William Messruther died 1945 Jan-March
age 79.
