Find Ancestors

John Marks Forster was born in Poland, as was his wife Maggie. They married sometime after the 1891 census because on the 1911 they have been married 19 years & I have Maggie on the 1891 at home in Grimsby with her parents Benjamin & Yetta.
No idea what John´s original name was as it has obviously been anglicised.
The couple had their 1st child in Leeds & I have them on the 1901&1911 census. The marriage could have taken place either in Grimsby or in Leeds.
Parish records are no help as the couple were Jewish.
Can´t see them either on Ancestry nor Free BMD.
Just to confuse the issue, Maggie was known to her grandchildren as Millie.
Can anyone spot them please? It´s just the marriage I need to find so that we can get the cert.

According to the 1911 census, John & Maggie took British nationality in 1904, but haven´t checked that out yet.

I think I may have the answer on Family Search if you search for Percy Forster it gives you several immigration cards for Rio de Janeiro..Percy was a journalist and states he was born 18/01/1900 Leeds. He went to and fro several times between 1940 (when he was a married man) and 1953. The names of his parents vary on some of the cards but I am sure they are the people you are looking for. You can look at the cards and each has a large, clear photo of him on it. He certainly looks Jewish. On one or more occassions he puts his parents as Juan Marco and Millicent Kohan on others they are John and Millicent Forster and many variations in between.

From Argentina arriving New York 21/04/1838 Percy etc journalist and Debora wife age 32 born Argentina both speak English and Spanish. His race is put as English and hers as Hebrew. She was born in Los Toldos, Argentina.

***I know that you are wanting to go back beyond Percy's parents but I think he is so interesting he was an International News Service Correspondent in Buenos Aires and there are several bits about him on Google.

Percy sounds an interesting character.
Plenty to look at there. ssssshould keep me quiet for a while.
John Marks & Maggie are my friend´s grandparents. I suggested that they may not have actually been married, but apparently that would have been a big no no in the synagogue & the marriage would almost certainly have been arranged, although there is a family rumour that John Marks left a wife behind in Poland.
He was apparently a bit of a lad. ;-)
