Re Joseph, I suppose he could have moved to Whitby, perhaps in poor health.
The age and occupation are right, or near enough.

As for the daughters, I have no idea, but will keep browsing.

(From the original, the page number for the second one looks like 281.)

From my burial index there was a Jane Wood buried in November 1855 in Whitby aged 82 - not the same one.

Yes I found that but kind of taken it out of the equation ... he was 75, a butcher BUT living in Whitby.

Also, his informant was an Elizabeth Goodwill, no connection mentioned ... she was merely 'present at the death'.

So not sure about that one! From the NBI it seems he was buried in Whitby Churchyard but can't find a burial for his wife from 1849 on the same programme. So, not sure. What do you think?

Hi Argyllgran, yes you have found the correct ones! He is in 1861 with his daughter Mary. I loose her after that, and Jane before that!

PS George Cockerell Wood - his paternal grandmother was Ann Cockerill who married Joseph Wood.

Ahhh, so that would explain it!

Also, can I ask for William Wood (born 1836 in the 1911) - just to help confirm a death I found in 1916?

Finally, William's father, Joseph Wood, my direct ancestor, was last living in 1871 in Castleton, Danby, North Yorkshire as a butcher. I can't really find a death for him. He was born c. 1806 in Bilsdale, and married Ann Cockerill (she died in 1849 in East Barnby from consumption). I can't find a marriage or a baptism.

I'm also stuck with searches for his daughters Jane (born 1844) and Mary (born 1848), both in Dale House (an inn), Hinderwell, North Yorkshire, where Joseph Wood was an innkeeper.

Any help with that is appreciated also, but regardless thank you for all the information so far. Highly appreciated!
