I am looking for a marriage, I believe in Dorset between John Samways and Elizabeth (EDIT MADE SORRY) unknown. First child i am aware of is baptised in 1781 (Edward Samways) Toller Porcorum and last 1786 (Stephen Samways). The dorset parish records it says are available on ancestry but i do not have this subscription, would someone please be willing to do this look up? thanks. Have followed this family and have Birth certificates/ marraige certificates and death certificates, now trying to go back via the parish registers.

Toller Porcorum,(Great Toller) registers start at dorset history centre in 1758, so unable to find a possible baptism for John Samways or Joan unknown. But apparently Toller Fratrum (Little Toller) registers go back further, so could they be baptised there?

All help very welcome

Yours

Jonesey

The date of marriage looks good

If find out East Lulworth is the home parish of Elizabeth this could be good. I have her death in 1821 age 79 years old -so hopefully born around 1742 if my calculation is right

Thanks

Glad to see you amended the name...was beginning to think I was going daft not finding a Joan.

I know you have these births, Richard is the first, not Edward.

Thanks everyone, I believe on family search some of the Toller Porocorum records are showing as Tarrent Ruston so very confusing using that site. However I still had 1781 as Edward as well as the twins Edward and Thomas 1784.

I dont know Dorset very well, and trying to look on maps as to how close East Lulworth is to Toller Porcorum. Will now look up West Salvore for John Samways as well.

Thanks again all for information

Had a look at the banns. The Parish is West Lulworth not West Salvore.

Sorry, the marriage record was very faded but the record of the banns is clearer.

Oh thank you very much -was just looking on West Lulworth OPC for Holland and found Samways below

Elizabeth daughter of William & Anna SAMWAYS baptised 5 February 1733

William son of William & Anna SAMWAYS baptised 29 July 1736

Its not John but likely to be same family I would hope. But can not find baptism for Elizabeth Holland in East or West Lulworth.

His burial is 1814 West Lulworth -now i first thought cant be same John Samways because of this -as they are in Toller Porcorum living, having children etc but although can find Elizabeths likely burial in 1821 Toller Porcorum, not Johns burial -but of course he could have been buried in home parish could even be family grave?
