Since your mother was born during the war are you sure your grandparents actually married? Could one of them have already been married to someone else at the time and therefore were not free to marry? This happened quite a lot at that time as divorce was not easy to get and was very expensive for ordinary working class people so they often just went on to make a life with another partner and lived as man and wife.

Do you have your mother's birth certificate ?

I see the birth if Mum was named after her mother, in Runcorn, Cheshire - on FMP not freebmd

The birth shows mothers maiden name, so If Grace had been married previously, then her married name wouldn't show.

Not seeing a marriage on Scotland's people.

Please can anyone help.....I have searched and searched for my grandparents wedding certificate and cannot find it....Im not sure of the year they were married but I am guessing around 1935-1940 as my mother was born in 1940.
William Charles Carter born 1900 and Grace Chapman born 1912 possibly married in the St Helens area.

Many Thanks
