OHooooo! that lovely choccy, thanks MC & Jan, virtual choccy is better than none.

I live in a wholly male household who just don't understand :-D

Just an opinion - as someone who tries to give a helping hand I don't think putting names in the heading helps one iota. Much better to put what you are after - 1861 census, Irish birth, Canadian marriage for example.
Some virtual choc on it's way to you Flip before you go into meltdown!

Not an easter egg in site, so I'm not in the same mood :-| so I just can't be doing with moaners who contribute very little to the site. Gimme Chocolate someone before I do something really rash :-D

Flip - it all depends on the mood I'm in whether people get tact & diplomacy or short shrift! Have had some choccy egg so in happy mode.

Oh get a life Shirley - and don't preach to people who have helped thousands over the years - or tell other members how to post .

Yes it can be frustrating at times, like drawing hens teeth getting info out of some people in order to help them but everyone is different, so don't preach your ideas.

Sorry MC but I don't have your tact & diplomacy :-D

Shirley (the new one!) - do you mean you're trying to find threads of people who are researching the same names as you and the surnames aren't shown in the titles? If so, that isn't really the way the boards work.

If you use the Search Trees facility (under search on the menu above) you can check to see if anyone else is researching your people - if you find matches then message the tree owners (don't use Genes preformatted messages that pop up, type your own stating what your connection is).

For names on the boards then use the "Advanced Search" link on the left, put in the surname and select the Find Ancestors board - you'll then (eventually) get a list of results where that name is in the title of the thread, or contained elsewhere in the thread.

Advice I'd give to any poster, including yourself especially, is make your point clearly and concisely. Also, if you don't understand how the boards work - ask for advice rather than grumble. :-)

Personally, I think it's fairly obvious that Shirley is unused to using these boards. I'm sure that, with out help, she will soon pick up how we work.

I have sent her one of my pm's re her Mallett thread. :-D

In addition, could posters please return to their threads within the first half-hour in case there are some queries raised by the helpers that need answers.?
Thank-you.

I'm sorry Shirley (poster) but I don't quite understand your post. I agree it is far easier when looking at the Find Ancestors page if somebody titles their post Bert Bloggs 1857

But I don't quite understand how you can be a frustrated researcher with only six posts. Or are you so frustrated you don't actually post?

Gins, I think the poster is saying that when she looks at the Find Ancestors view it is frustrating to have things titled "Trying To Find"...i.e. making you actually open the post to find out who they are trying to find :-)

I dont quite understand what you mean Shirley?

Any thread you have contributed to will be in 'My Threads' so it is quite easy to find

Have you helped a lot of people on here or is that a different site?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Mar 2013 17:01

You have CAUSED frustration by not including DATE info when you asked for help

Shirley

Shirley Report 28 Mar 2013 16:55

Please type the name of the family you are researching in your subject title as it is most annoying to scroll down all the "trying to finds"! We are all trying to find someone. Don't type 2look up " either. Be clearer in your subject title and you might get more information.

Frustrated researcher. :-(
