I agree you need to get the birth cert. If she turns out to be someone else's daughter you can then look for parent(s) 1861.

Looks like it does rule her out if Ann's maiden name was Winder, then.

according to lancashirebmd
1848
mmn Ainsworth Blackburn birth

I think I will order the birth certificate to make sure..

Thanks

I agree that Ann is probably too old to be her mother (not totally impossible, but unlikely).

Mark - how do you know that M A on the 1851 stands for Mary Ann, and not say Margaret Ann? (Or do you have other info that proves that it all fits?)

I really think you can discount the Blackburn birth. As you know, there was no compulsion to register births until c1874, my theory is that if a child was illegitimate the birth was even less likely to be registered. I think there's a good chance she could be the child of Jane or Agnes.

Lancashire Death indexes for the years: 1848
Surname Forename(s) Age Sub-District Registers At Reference
ARMISTEAD Mary Ann 0 Blackburn Blackburn B/25/28

Does look like the one born in Blackburn in 1848, that GlitterBaby posted, died soon after birth.

But her birth might not have been registered as it was not compulsory until 1870's.

You showed the birth for Blackburn and I posted a possible death.

I wonder if she was really a daughter? While not impossible, An would have been 51 when she was born. I addition, apart from James (Whittington Lancs) the rest of the family were born In Westmorland.

Here is the family 1841. I am just speculating that (maybe) Mary was daughter to one of the older girls?

Just a thought!
