Many thanks but information from my deceased parents never suggested any Irish connection. Will most probably have to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate to proceed

Start by obtaining the marriage cert, to find out if he knew his father.

That info, if given, together with William's occupation, will enable an informed search for the family on census records

The names of the witnesses may also hold clues

Looking for the parentage of my paternal grandfather, William H (Henry?) Galbraith b1879 (-/+1) who married Minnie Smith, Cheam Surrey, August 1917. There may be connections in Ayrshire, Scotland.
