Anne Report 29 Mar 2013 13:18

1911 census shows Isabel Gange living in the house of Frank Moss at 32 Greencroft Gardens, South Hampstead. isabel was an orphan and was listed in the census as "cousin". I am trying to find the connection between her and Frank Moss. There are a number of Gange families living in St George Hanover Square and Frank Moss was born in that area.

Isabel's father was Samuel Gange but he lived most of his life in Marseilles France and was married there. Although I have found several "Samuel Gange" records I do not know which one is right and am hoping to find it through Isabel's connection.

Isabel's mother's maiden name was Pirie and hailed from Scotland so I don't think the Pirie family is the connection to the Moss family.

I would be very pleased to hear from anyone who can give me the link between the Gange and Moss families

Have you tracked Frank Moss back through the censuses?
Thanks

I guess she'd be the daughter of one of Frank or Edith Rose's parent's siblings - have you tracked them all?

The term cousin was sometimes loosely used ......

Unless someone is actively researching them, the chances of a link being known are minimal.

You will need to do some 'digging'

Have you used 'search all trees'?

Further pm:

"In reply I have tried to track the Moss family. Turns out that Edith Rose's maiden name was also Moss. But, of course, there seem to be quite a few Frank Moss, either in Pimlico or St George's Hanover Square and I feel I'm going up a blind alley.

I'm pretty sure Isabel was a cousin. She was my grandmother and I've heard the story a few times."

Anne, further down this page is the "add your reply" box - just put your answers in there and submit. :-)
